There's nothing like heading out to the trails with your sled after the first snowfall. Here are some tips to make the trails even better.
- Have the appropriate attire for the cold. In addition to a certified helmet, wear a windproof outer layer of clothing along with gloves, and boots.
- Bring a buddy. While snowmobiling is fun, there can be dangers along the trail. It is always smart to sled with a friend.
- Know the water sources. Be familiar with the area you are going across any bodies of water (stream, pond, lake) that could be hidden by the snow. Even if the ice is thick enough for a person to walk on, it obviously might not hold a sled.
- Check your sled. Make sure you have enough fuel, make sure there are no maintenance issues or potential problems.
- Don't drink and sled. Don't operate any vehicles under the influence. With a snowmobile, alcohol consumption can increase the risks of hypothermia.
Remember, if you're a policyholder, talk to your agent about adding your sled to your policy.
