A natural disaster such as a catastrophic storm or hurricane can strike at any time and can affect your agency. Your clients are relying on you to help them recover quickly after a disaster. You’ll want to make sure your agency is prepared ahead of time to make it easier to be up and running quickly so that you can assist your policyholders.

Here are 4 tips to help your agency prepare if you are in the path of a catastrophic storm or hurricane:

  • Complete a full backup of your agency management system and keep it offsite, where it can be accessed even if you do not have access to the office.

  • Load your agency management system onto one or more laptops to allow staff the ability to work remotely if available.
  • Move paper files and computers away from windows and cover them with plastic to protect them from water damage.
  • Print a list of all policyholders, policy numbers, and important policy information and store it in a safe location.
